Wellbeing Service at QMU

If you’re struggling or facing particular difficulties which are affecting your wellbeing, mood or behaviour, don’t panic - we can help! The Wellbeing service can provide positive support, information, and advice on key issues. Why not book an appointment or come to a drop-in session, and we can have a chat about it.

What do people come to the Wellbeing service for? 

All sorts of things! It varies hugely, from stress and anxiety management, relationship difficulties, mental health issues, or difficulty juggling the stressors of student life. Anything which affects your physical or mental wellbeing.

How do I book an appointment?

Our new Appointment booking system can be found here:  Appointments are 30 – 45 minutes long and an opportunity to explore any issues or problems you are facing, and refer you to relevant resources and support networks. We can also make a plan and set goals for how to keep yourself well and develop positive coping strategies and improved self-care. All appointments are fully confidential and non-judgemental.

What are the drop-in sessions?

Drop-in sessions are not bookable but open for you to atend any time during the listed hours for quick queries or advice. They take place within Student Services from 9.30am – 4.30pm Monday to Friday. We also have lots of useful Resources and Self-help tools on the website.

Where are you located?

The Wellbeing service is located within Student Services (First floor, behind glass partition). There is a private wellbeing office and counselling office, and everything is confidential. Just let the receptionist know you are there for a Wellbeing appointment.

What else do you do?

We run ongoing workshops and groups to help you manage issues like Stress and Anxiety, Self-esteem and low confidence, and how to look after yourself during exam time. Keep an eye on the ‘Wellbeing Events’ section of the website for any upcoming workshops – they are due to start in February on Wednesday afternoons.

We are also running a 6-week course called ‘Stress Control’ which is run by a CBT therapist and starts on Friday 25th January. It features 6 stand-alone sessions on Stress and Anxiety, and practical tips for how to manage this. It is a lecture-based course, using in the NHS, and you do not have to speak or share anything in the group.
